Magic Biography

Who's Who Among Magicians

Home

Magic Biography is a website about famous magicians, more than 1,634 of them, with brief notes on their accomplishments (and about 250 of their website links).  This was updated on June 27, 2010.  My name is Magician Michael E. Johnson, and I love magic history.  It's not about the tricks, it's never about the tricks.  It's always about the people.  I think magicians are interesting characters.  The more I learn about them, the more I like.

This web site provides a snapshot of the most recognizable magicians of the 21st century, from the stars of stage and screen, to those who labor in the trenches of magic clubs.  Whenever possible, website links are also provided.  So far I've dug up more than 230 websites for famous magicians.

"Who's Who In Magic" is loosely defined as (1) magic club officers, (2) magic award winners, (3) theater headliners, (4) TV or movie stars, (5) authors, (6) inventors, (7) publishers, (8) teachers, (9) collectors, (10) dealers, and (11) other rascals we like.

Information was gathered from magic organizations like FISM, the Academy of Magical Arts, Society of American Magicians, International Brotherhood of Magicians, and IBM Ring 76 in San Diego.  Other sources include AMA Award programs, IBM convention programs, "Genii," "The Illusionist," "The Linking Ring," "Magic," "MagiCurrents," "M-U-M," "The New Tops," "Tannen's Magic Manuscript," "The Thaumaturge," and whatever I could get my hands on to review.  I realize this list is incomplete.

A few nice people have sent me updates.  Many thanks to cartoonist Jim Whiting, Alan Watson from the Magic New Zealand newsletter, FISM Winner Wayne Alan, Genii editor Richard Kaufman, IBM International President Jack White, plus Fred Casto, Lee Asher, Christian König, Alfred Albers, Jack Poulter, Terry Herbert, Steve Gore, Judy Webb, Frances Mai-Ling, Guiseppe Impiduglia and John R. Pellatt.

I'll keep adding to Magic Biography, when I'm not working as a full-time, professional magician, doing San Diego magic shows and San Diego magic classes.  Send any updates or feedback to mjohns341@cox.net.  And please, please, please, don't copy this list without my permission.  It took me forever to compile it!  Have a great day and thanks for reading this.
